A lively chorus of droning insects and frogs, recorded with a pentax point-and-shoot waterproof camera in the dunes of tybee island, georgia on a wet summer evening. I think this track has a hypnotic and somewhat disorienting effect.

The caws were recorded with a usb-stick mic, but i forget the particulars of exactly when and where i was. There are many variations to the call of crows, both singularly and in unison. I captured just a few of the individual variety.

This sound sample is part of the free collective soundbank "negative mass", which is comprised of around 60 royalty free samples and field recordings used by some of the artists featured in the "new chronologies of sound" collection to compose their sound works. "new chronologies of sound" is a sound art collection that proposes to generate debate on issues related to the ways in which lockdown affected our ways of listening, perception of time and work habits, by developing a collection of sound works based on field recordings, which reflect upon those matters. This artistic research project gathers artists and researchers from all over the globe — agf (de), budhaditya chattopadhyay (in), bj nilsen (se), diana combo (pt), gustavo costa (pt), hugo branco (pt), kyoka (jp), laura romero (es), lawrence english (es), matthew herbert (uk), miguel isaza (co) and natalia valencia zuluaga (co)— encompassing a broad diversity of aesthetics, geographies, processual latitudes and conceptual attitudes, which range from pure field recordings and processed soundscapes down to more musical or compositional uses of found sounds. + info: https://lifeisavicnic. Imagine a warm, damp-humid august evening in the midwest. It's about 8pm and you're in a mowed path which is 10 feet wide. On either side of you, are two fields of tall -- 9 feet --- corn standing like green, thick grassy sentinels. This is where i was when i recorded this hypnotic sound-scape on saturday night august 9th 2014. I made this recording with my marantz pmd661 (modified by oade brothers electronics)in stereo using twin, matched samson co2 microphones mounted on my tripod about 5 feet above the ground. My record volume was 6 1/2.

Quiet urban residential area in tokyo at about 2 am in the late summer (october, i think). You can hear far off traffic, some night insects and a drunk guy who came to close to my hidden mics to take a whiz. Excluding the peeing guy, quiet parts are perfect for looping (for ambient background sounds in video or audio works). The peeing guy might actually be useful, so i didn't cut it out. Faithfully recorded with a stereo mic pair placed at a 90 degree angle. The left-right balance was adjusted and the stereo field was expanded later to fix the lopsided sided flatness of the original recording. Other than that, the recording is unprocessed.

A soundscape of several thunderstorms mixed together to create a uniquely immersive, full field recording. This editing process allows for rain and thunder strikes to be recorded at different volumes and creates a more diverse atmosphere with different types of rain, wind, and ambiance melded into one found sound. Although each storm was recorded in a slightly different location, everything is from the greater detroit, mi, usa area. -recorded entirely with a tascam dr-03 set at 48 k / 24 bit. Then each different storm was edited together in magix music maker. -this album version fades out with a simple, repeating synth line.

A 3-inch folding pocket-knife opening and closing. Recorded very close to the microphone. Makes a snick/click sound. The sharp blade folds into a steel housing so the sound is metal on metal. This is a recording of traffic passing on a freeway. Used the voice recorder app on my samsung galaxy phone to record this. It is an android app available on google play. After recording this i downloaded it as a wav file, then uploaded it to soundtrap. Com. An online studio where you can record and create music using pre-recorded instrumental loops. Here i altered or distorted the sound of the traffic to make it a more ambient sounding loop. Giving it a drone sounding noise.
